Is OmeTV Safe? An OmeTV App Review for Parents

Overall Rating:
⭐ 1.0 / 5

Overview

Overall Rating: ⭐ 1.0 / 5

Recommended Age: 18 and up

Omegle may be permanently shuttered, but there is no shortage of dangerous random chat apps on the internet. Interestingly, a popular replacement is OmeTV. Though the company states in their FAQs that they “are not affiliated with Omegle or similar services in any way” their name is clearly meant to resemble the former platform. And on their homepage, OmeTV states that they “are the best Omegle alternative.”

Just as Omegle wasn’t safe for kids (and generally isn’t for adults, either!), OmeTV is similarly dangerous. One key difference for OmeTV is that it requires users to log in with a Facebook account. A lot of kids don’t have Facebook accounts, so this seems like a barrier, but it’s not. Facebook accounts are easy and free to create.

Also, the company states that it’s for adults only, but there’s no age verification.

Harmful Content 😲

Rating:

While OmeTV has rules that prohibit sexual content, that doesn’t prevent it from happening in the moment. This means that your child could instantly be exposed to nudity, sexual acts, and more. This can be incredibly disturbing for children. It may also lead to predation, sextortion, and more. It’s also possible for pedophiles to screen-record and save their interactions with children.

Predation 🚨

Rating:

People of all ages can be paired up on OmeTV, and in the FAQ section the company urges users to clearly show their face so they can make a good impression.

Positive Value 💙

Rating:

OmeTV has no redeeming features that outweigh the extreme dangers of the platform.

Privacy 🔒

Rating:

Privacy isn’t the issue with OmeTV — you can be completely anonymous, but the dangers are inappropriate content and potential predation.

Parental Controls ✅

Rating:

There’s nothing a parent can do to make OmeTV safer, except for blocking it outright, which we highly recommend doing preemptively.

So, should my kid download it?

Absolute not — OmeTV is incredibly dangerous and pairs users up with complete strangers around the world to chat. We recommend blocking it so kids aren’t even tempted to play around with it.
