Is the Die With Me App Safe? A Die With Me App Review
Recommended Age
17 and up
Overview
Die With Me is a chat app that can only be used when your phone battery is at 5% or less (dying, in other words). While this probably isn’t as bad as you were probably expecting given the name, it’s still not a great app for kids. It was initially created as an art project by its creator, which gives a little insight into why it even exists at all.
Rated for 17+, Die With Me ranks among other dangerous apps like Omegle and Kik because it connects users anonymously to strangers from around the world.
Harmful Content 😲
Die With Me users are thrown into one large public chat reminiscent of ’90s AOL chat rooms. Like with any public chat, there’s a large potential for sexual or inappropriate content, profanity, hate speech, and more.
Predation 🚨
Kids may be targeted by adults using the app. Meeting in the public chat, the conversation may then move to another messaging platform where grooming can continue.
Positive Value 💙
We can find no positive value in an app that encourages users to chat anonymously under the added pressure of having a dying battery.
Privacy 🔒
The app is anonymous, so privacy isn’t a concern unless users share personal information. But with this app, privacy is the least of your worries given the potential for predation.
Parental Controls ✅
Die With Me has no parental controls.
So, should my kid download it?
No. Die With Me is just another dangerous, anonymous chat app with a gimmicky angle based on messaging with low phone batteries.
