Apex Legends: A Video Game Review for Parents

Updated December 4, 2025

Overview

Overall Rating: ⭐ 2.0 / 5

Recommended Age: 14 and up

Apex Legends is a multiplayer online battle royale game set in a sci-fi universe. A battle royale game pits one player against another until just one person or team is left standing. In the case of Apex Legends, each player chooses a “Legend” to play as and competes in a squad to be the last one standing.

So is this game safe for kids? Apex Legends is a popular game in the video game world, but we found some things that parents should know.

Harmful Content ❗️

Rating:

The first thing parents should be aware of is the fact that this is a multiplayer online game. This means it’s meant to be played with others on the internet, usually strangers. Players use voice and text chat to communicate with teammates during gameplay. The chat is where kids have a high risk of encountering toxic behavior from others.

Additionally, Apex Legends is a free-to-play game, but there are several opportunities for in-game purchases that can entice kids. Be sure you have parental controls set up on your devices to prevent any accidental or unapproved purchases.

Language

The characters in the game itself may occasionally use adult language. The in-game chat with online players is highly likely to have profanity, bullying, and generally inappropriate language.

Sex

Aside from some characters wearing tight or slightly revealing clothing, this game has no sexual content or nudity.

Violence

As a combat-based game, Apex Legends ranks high in violence. Combat is fast-paced and stylized, similar to Fortnite. Weapons include guns and explosives, as well as the character’s “special abilities,” such as gas traps or fire attacks. When players are killed or “eliminated,” they are seen falling over, but there’s no blood or gore involved.

Positive Value 💫

Rating:

Apex Legends highlights key video game benefits, especially teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Each player has to learn cooperation skills in order to be successful in the game. Additionally, lots of matches and battles can result in setbacks and failures, which players have to overcome with good strategizing.

So, should my kid play it?

Given the level of violence and the online features, we’d say this game is suitable for ages 14 and up. If you allow your child to play, be sure you have a reliable way to supervise the chat and talk to your child about what they should do if they encounter anything that makes them uncomfortable.
