Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: A Video Game Review For Parents

Updated May 8, 2025

Overview

Overall Rating: ⭐ 4.5 / 5

Recommended Age: 8 and up

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the latest crossover video game on the Nintendo Switch, including characters from franchises such as Super Mario Bros., Sonic, Metroid, and more. In this ultimate mashup, players get to test their combat skills by battling up to eight other fighters, both in Versus and Classic game modes. As a game exclusive to the Switch, many Nintendo fans feel it’s a must-have!

But for parents, making sure a game is safe for their kids before they play is also a must. Let’s take a look at some important features of this game so you can have peace of mind before downloading it for your child.

Harmful Content ❗️

Rating:

Parents should know that while Super Smash Bros. Ultimate does not have inappropriate content, the game can be played online with strangers. But there are a few caveats — online play is only available with a Nintendo Switch online membership. Additionally, players can use preset messages and voice chat with friends, but with strangers it’s only pre-set messages (i.e., no voice chat with strangers).

So while communication is limited, parents should always exercise caution when it comes to any interactions online.

Language

There is no inappropriate language in this video game.

Sex

Some female characters are depicted in skin-tight costumes, otherwise there is no sexual content in this game.

Violence

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a fighting game, and players use weapons and strategic attacks to defeat their opponents. But all the combat is cartoonish and unrealistic, with no blood or gore to be concerned about.

Positive Value 💫

Rating:

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is more entertaining than anything else, as many video games are. It encourages strategic play and perseverance to continue winning battles. Given the lack of mature violence or content, this game can definitely be a safe bet for parents looking for an appropriate game for their child’s Switch.

So, should my kid play it?

We’d suggest Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for ages 8 and up. But you know your child best, and we hope our review helps you decide if this game is a fit for your family.
