The Mandalorian: A TV Show Review for Parents

Updated November 6, 2025

Overview

Overall Rating: ⭐ 3.5 / 5

Recommended Age: 10 and up

Even with all the movies in the Star Wars franchise, it wouldn’t be complete without an incredible, action-packed TV series. The Mandalorian takes place after the fall of the Empire and before the rise of the First Order. It follows a lone bounty hunter whose story changes when he meets a powerful creature named Grogu that he decides to protect instead of turning in for a bounty.

Starring the incredible Pedro Pascal and debuting “Baby Yoda” (Grogu’s affectionate nickname from fans), this show unsurprisingly had quick success from its release in 2019.

Tons of kids love Star Wars, but is The Mandalorian kid-appropriate? Here’s what parents should know.

Harmful Content ❗️

Rating:

Parents should know that The Mandalorian is more like a space western than a family adventure movie. Generally speaking, it’s very on par with the other Star Wars movies, but has a little more edge and grit. The show deals with some morally gray areas, particularly with the main character, Mando. He frequently uses force and violence but also shows moments of kindness and compassion.

Language

Occasionally, language includes words like “damn,” “hell,” or “bastard.”

Sex

There is no nudity or sexual content, and even romance is limited in this series. There’s occasional flirting and hints at romantic interest, but the focus is far more centered on the action and adventure.

Violence

The show features tons of moments of fighting and intense adventures. Characters are shot with blasters, engaged in hand-to-hand combat, even stabbed and disintegrated. These moderately violent scenes are never gory or bloody, but more stylized to be kid-appropriate. It’s comparable to the violence in other Star Wars movies, if you’re familiar.

Positive Value 💫

Rating:

The show is thrilling, adventurous, and entertaining, just as you’d expect from the Star Wars universe. It also has themes of compassion, courage, and loyalty to those you value in your life. While there are morally gray areas, Mando keeps an honor code of honesty and keeps his word no matter what. Additionally, the way he protects Grogu emphasizes the importance of responsibility and empathy.

So, should my kid watch it?

We’d say this show is appropriate for kids around 10 and up! Every kid is different, and parents should consider their own child’s maturity, along with the content laid out here, before making a decision that’s best for their child.
