Black Panther is a Marvel superhero movie that follows T’Challa, the new king of Wakanda, as he returns home after the death of his father. Wakanda appears to be a poor, isolated country, but it is actually an advanced nation powered by vibranium.
T’Challa’s leadership is challenged when Erik Killmonger, a dangerous enemy with a personal connection to the royal family, arrives in Wakanda. T’Challa has to protect his country, decide what kind of king he wants to be, and determine how Wakanda should use its resources to help the rest of the world.

Like most Marvel movies, Black Panther includes frequent action, intense fighting, and a few emotional deaths. We’ll break it all down below!
Language
Adult language is infrequent. Words used include “h*ll,” “a*s,” and “sh*t,” and one character makes an explicit hand gesture.
Sex
Sexual content is minimal. There is some flirting and a few brief kisses, but there are no explicit sexual scenes or nudity.
Violence
Violence is very common throughout the movie. Characters fight with spears, blades, guns, futuristic weapons, and hand-to-hand combat. There are car chases, explosions, large battles, and several characters are shot, stabbed, or killed. Blood is shown in a few scenes, but the violence is not especially graphic.
The ritual fights and final battle may be frightening for younger or sensitive kids. The movie also includes emotional scenes involving the deaths of family members and themes of revenge and abandonment.

T’Challa is thoughtful and compassionate, but he also learns that being a good leader means questioning traditions that may be harmful. He listens to the people around him, admits when his country has made mistakes, and chooses to work toward a better future.
The women of Wakanda are intelligent, brave, and central to the story. Shuri is a gifted inventor, Nakia is committed to helping people in need, and Okoye is a loyal and skilled leader. The movie also highlights teamwork and shows that people with different strengths can work together.
Killmonger’s story can also lead to conversations about grief, anger, inequality, and what can happen when pain is allowed to turn into revenge.

We recommend Black Panther for kids aged 12 and up.
