Updated December 4, 2025

Overview

Overall Rating: ⭐ 1.0 / 5

Recommended Age: 16 and up

Emily in Paris is a multi-season Netflix comedy-drama starring Lily Collins as a bright-eyed marketing professional who lands a career-changing job in Paris. After moving from Chicago, Emily doesn’t find Paris or her new job to be the most welcoming, but she’s nothing if not determined to find her place.

Is Emily in Paris a safe show for kids to watch? We did a deep dive and found some things that parents should know. Keep reading to learn more.

Harmful Content ❗️

Rating:

Parents should know that this show was not written for kids and has several adult themes. Much of the drama from the show comes from Emily’s interpersonal and professional relationships. One thing of note is that the show has frequent occurrences of infidelity and romantic entanglements with those already in relationships. It’s discussed very casually and normalized. Additionally, characters are frequently seen smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol socially.

Language

Common instances of profanity such as “b*tch,” “sh*t,” and more.

Sex

Sex is discussed often, and there are brief moments of nudity (i.e., a woman’s buttocks are visible). There are no explicitly sexual scenes, but it’s clear that this show is intended for a mature audience based on the way sex is discussed and involved in the plot.

Violence

Emily in Paris has little to no violence. There are emotionally intense scenes, but nothing physical.

Positive Value 💫

Rating:

Emily, as a main character, is ambitious, optimistic, and open to new experiences. She faces lots of struggles and judgment from others as she adjusts to life in Paris, and yet she takes every opportunity to prove herself. Aside from some of the unhealthy or dysfunctional relationships, Emily also makes lots of genuine friends based on loyalty and kindness. The show certainly has adult content, but as far as TV-MA shows go, it’s not as inappropriate as others (see our reviews on Euphoria or Bridgerton).

So, should my kid watch it?

Given the mature content, we’d say this show is better for older teens, around ages 16 and up. Every teen is different in what content they can handle, so be sure to take your own child’s maturity into account before allowing them to watch.
