The Dodo: A YouTube Channel Review for Parents

Updated February 2, 2026

Overview

Overall Rating: ⭐ 4.0 / 5

Recommended Age: 7 and up

If you or your kid loves watching the cutest animal videos, this channel is for you! The Dodo is self-proclaimed as the “home for animal people.” Most of the videos are compilations of different animals doing something adorable or hilarious. Their most popular video from ten years ago has 292 million views (and counting!), and it’s just a 36-second video of babies laughing at animals. They also have some longer, documentary videos about animals overcoming hardships and finding their forever homes.

If you can’t tell already, The Dodo is a pretty wholesome channel. But there are a few things parents may want to know before they let their kid start perusing the channel all on their own. Let’s get into it!

Harmful Content ❗️

Rating:

While most of the videos are cute and lighthearted, there are some videos that get somewhat intense. Sometimes videos feature animals that are in danger or aggressive. One of their most popular videos is an educational video about the cruelty of “Rattlesnake Roundups” that happens around the U.S., where rattlesnakes are gathered and killed for sport. The video does not show any rattlesnakes being killed explicitly, but it does detail how they are killed and treated. Videos like these may be intense for a younger audience or a sensitive animal lover.

Language

This channel doesn’t have any profanity from the narrators or commenters featured in the videos.

Sex

There is no sexual content on this channel.

Violence

The violence is minimal, aside from the times animals are seen in distress or the video is educating viewers on the violence that animals can face. The videos don’t explicitly depict this, nor do they use overly graphic language, but it is discussed in an informational sense.

Positive Value 💫

Rating:

The Dodo is a perfect mix of fun and educational videos! Many of them are just plain cute and wholesome, which anyone of any age can enjoy. But for real animal lovers, the educational content is a great way to spark curiosity in animal and wildlife care. With so much content on YouTube that is definitely not safe for kids, it doesn’t get much more family-friendly than this one.

So, should my kid watch it?

Yes! We’d recommend this channel for ages as young as 7, particularly the more lighthearted, silly videos on the channel, while the more educational content may be better suited to slightly older ages.
