Our Top Recommendations for Kid-Friendly Spooky Podcasts

Allison Scovell  |  October 09, 2025

With spooky season upon us, it’s the perfect time to gather around and share some spooky stories. Nowadays, what better way is there to hear some new scary stories than with a podcast? Luckily, there are tons of podcasts that are entertaining, a little creepy, and totally age-appropriate. We’ve rounded up our favorites right here so you can be ready for the next bonfire or car ride to the costume party. Let’s jump in!

Unspookable

Recommended age: 8 and up

Unspookable is a podcast created for young Halloween lovers! It takes both a playful and historical take on some of the most popular spooky stories, such as Friday the 13th, the Boogeyman, and more. In these dramatic retellings of old legends, the host makes it intriguing for all ages and even includes a segment where kids get to share what they believe about that episode’s story.

Grim, Grimmer, Grimmest

Recommended age: 7 and up

If you’re familiar with the Grimm Fairy Tales, then you know how strange (and not very kid-friendly) those stories can get. But luckily, this podcast takes those real stories and tells them in a way that’s still appropriate and fun for kids. The best part? Each episode is labeled with just how “grim” each story is, but even the grimmest ones are safe for young listeners.

Sawbones

Recommended age: 12 and up

Sometimes Halloween decorations include things like bloody handprints or eyeballs falling out of eye sockets — that’s the kind of medical spookiness this podcast brings to our list. Each episode is a different, fascinating story about bizarre medical practices in our history. Most episodes are safe for kids, but be on the lookout for the occasional episode that starts with a content warning — you’re likely going to want to skip those if the kids are around.

Myths and Legends

Recommended age: 12 and up

Another storytelling podcast, Myths and Legends, shares legends across all cultures, peoples, and time periods. Their episodes aren’t focused on just scary stories (like Unspookable), but rest assured, listeners can find tons of ancient legends that have the necessary spook-factor for the season.

Want our suggestions?  Look for episode “350: Korean folklore: Ghosts and Goblins” or “340: Halloween: The Night that the Skeletons Came to Life.”

Six Minutes

Recommended age: 9 and up

Not everyone may love a gory story, and that’s okay! This podcast is for those who enjoy a thrilling story without the ghosts and ghouls. Six Minutes is a serialized podcast drama that follows the mysterious journey of a girl named Holiday. She has special powers and yet no memories of her past life before waking up alone on the Alaskan coast. Each episode is — you guessed it — roughly six minutes long. While it may not score points for creepiness, it certainly does for mystery and suspense.

Grown, a podcast from the Moth

Recommended age: 14 and up

If you’re familiar with this podcast, you might be confused about why it’s on this list. But make no mistake, this podcast is about the scariest thing of all — growing up!

Grown shares real-life stories from kids and teens about their journey through adolescence. The stories will give listeners a healthy dose of second-hand cringe, as well as a sense of relief that we’re not alone in the missteps we experience as teens. So, even though adulthood can seem grim for teens, hopefully, this podcast will help them navigate the unknowns of it with confidence.
